Hatha Yoga for Teens

This February I am excited to work with Park Orchards Community House and create a new yoga class for teens!

In 2019 I completed my 300hr Diploma of Yoga Teaching with Bhava Yoga & Dance Centre, and the new year brings an opportunity to share this with the community.

When I was first approached about doing a class for teens, I felt a great weight of responsibility. Adolescence can be a challenging time physically and emotionally. It’s a time of finding who you are, what you like and where you fit in the world. A time of tests, exams and pressure.

It’s also a time where skills can be made for life. This is where yoga comes in. In these classes, we will practise presence, the art of being in this moment. We will practise body awareness, connection to our physical form. We will practise acceptance without judgement. Seeing ourselves for who we are in this moment, and working toward self-compassion.

In these classes, we will practise presence, the art of being in this moment.

When I was a teenager I would ask my parents to take me to various new classes, yoga styles and yoga studios. I found a love in meditation, the connection to breath, but most of all, a time to just be. Despite any stressors taking place at that time, I left them at the door of my yoga practice. I came back to the self, body, mind & spirit, and found peace.

These are the qualities that we will cultivate in these yoga classes. With the traditional practice of Hatha Yoga, we will learn asana (physical posture), pranayama (breathwork) and meditation to create skills for life, and a home away from home.
